Chapter Governance

SHRM-Atlanta, the Atlanta Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, was founded in 1965 and currently enjoys a membership of over 2300+ members.  While affiliated with SHRM National, the Chapter operates independently to provide a wide variety of professional development and networking opportunities for Atlanta area HR professionals.  The Chapter's diverse membership represents more than 1,300 large and small organizations in the metro area, ranges in experience from entry to senior level, and varies in practice from specialist to generalist roles.  Now, the Chapter celebrates over 45 years as Atlanta’s Most Active Resource for Advancing HR Professionals, proudly serving and advancing the HR profession for over four decades!

SHRM-Atlanta seeks to promote the professionalism of the Human Resources Management field by offering members a wide variety of professional development opportunities and a common forum in which to share ideas and experiences.

Our Purpose:

Serving the Atlanta HR professional, SHRM-Atlanta provides comprehensive information and tools to HR professionals to enable them to make informed decisions; invests in the appropriate technology and infrastructure to provide access to and delivery of pertinent industry information; serves as the recognized HR community within Atlanta through which HR professionals have the opportunity to exchange ideas, develop of professional relationships, and sharpen their HR knowledge.


Advancing the profession, SHRM-Atlanta takes service to the next level in order to ensure a strong future for the HR profession for years to come.  The Chapter works to set the agenda for the HR profession in Atlanta; ensure that HR is recognized for its contributions to business success; enhance the capability and credibility of the HR profession; build communities for the exchange of leading-edge business ideas and the development of professional relationships.

By providing products and services to enhance HR professional expertise, SHRM-Atlanta works to help companies grow and to make Atlanta a top-rated city in which to do business.

The SHRM-Atlanta Value Proposition:

To promote networking and deliver relevant business and HR related curriculum through focused programming to include:  Chapter meetings, Geographic Emphasis Meetings (GEMs), Professional Emphasis Groups (PEGs), Spring Assembly, Fall Conference, HR Excellence Awards, Link with a Leader Auction, and Certification Review Courses.
To provide opportunities for career development and community involvement both inside and outside of the Chapter.  Internal development opportunities include volunteer roles on SHRM-Atlanta’s strong leadership team.  External opportunities include participation in the Mayor’s Youth Program, a charity event in partnership with Mayor Shirley Franklin's office that works to prepare the youth of Atlanta City Schools for workplace internships, as well as organizing donations for the SHRM Foundation and local Atlanta charities.

The prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to SHRM-Atlanta members who demonstrate exceptional commitment and dedication to the Chapter over an extended period of time.
