SHRM-Atlanta FAQ's                                           

1. What are GEMs?

GEM stands for Geographical Emphasis Meeting.  There are 8 GEM locations around the metro Atlanta area:

  • Buckhead
  • Central (Midtown)
  • East (Covington/Conyers)
  • North (Alpharetta)
  • Northeast (Norcross)
  • Northwest (Marietta)
  • Perimeter
  • South (Union City)

GEM meetings are a chance to discuss a wide variety of HR topics, while networking with other HR professionals and earning CEU credits.  These meetings occur every other month.  Check out the next GEM meeting close to you and register!

2. What are PEG workshops?

PEG workshops are Professional Emphasis Groups.  There are several different PEG workshops: Compensation and Benefits, Global, Staffing Management, Consultant's, and Organization Development.  PEG workshops occur before the Professional Development and Networking Series (formerly known as chapter meetings) at 4 pm.  As a member, PEG workshops are included in the chapter meeting registration fee.

3. Does my SHRM-Atlanta membership include SHRM National?

SHRM-Atlanta and SHRM National are affiliated, yet separate so it is not included in your SHRM-Atlanta membership.  If you would like to be a SHRM National member as well, you will need to join separately on their website (www.shrm.org).

4. How long is my membership term?

SHRM-Atlanta memberships are active for a 12 month period.  Job transitional membership are active for 6 months.

5. How often are chapter meetings and where are they held?

Chapter meetings are every other month and are held at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

6. How much is membership?

  • HR Practitioner Membership: $135
  • Affiliate Membership: $135
  • Student Membership: $35
  • Job Transitional Membership:  Free

7. How much does it cost to post a job on the Job Board?

To post a job it costs $125 for 30 days.

8. How often is the certification review course?

SHRM-Atlanta holds a certification review course in the fall and spring each year. There are eleven classes that are held once per week.
