Mayor's Youth Program
SHRM-Atlanta’s Official Community Service Project
|
The Mayor’s Youth Program is a program founded by Mayor Shirley Franklin for students in the Atlanta Public School system and children of Atlanta City workers. Focusing on high school seniors, the program is designed to assist and advise students about their college options and prepare them for summer internships.
SHRM-Atlanta’s involvement began late in 2006 with planning for the spring and fall of 2007. Since then SHRM-Atlanta volunteers have helped over 2000 high school seniors by facilitating workforce readiness training, one-on-one interviewing and help with college applications. It is SHRM-Atlanta’s goal to help find summer internship opportunities and provide core workforce skills training in such areas as interviewing, communication, business ethics and time management as well as proper work attire. This is SHRM-Atlanta’s way of giving back to the community in ways only Human Resource professionals can.
Please join former Mayor Shirley Franklin, Mayor Kasim Reed and SHRM-Atlanta:
- Give your time! Volunteer through on a Saturday in the spring or fall.
- Provide Internships: Sponsor a student by providing a summer job. These students need good jobs and real business experiences to complete their training and to gather funding to go on to school.
- Use your talents: Facilitate a workshop; interview and evaluate student’s readiness for work; help contact volunteers; keep the data base updated; provide content for training; direct students to classes
- Help fund the project: The Mayor’s Youth Program can use both cash donations and donations in kind. Donations are needed for printing materials, binders, shirts for the kids to wear to their jobs, etc.
