Our December Chapter Meeting speaker, Laura Turner Seydel, daughter of philanthropist and environmentalist Ted Turner, is a leading lady among a family of leaders that have had a significant impact on shaping the City of Atlanta and leading worldwide sustainability initiatives. Mrs. Seydel is a leader and helps to influence many businesses to lead by example when it comes to being good stewards of the environment. Mrs. Seydel, a conservationist and eco-living expert, will present tips for going green to benefit our communities, organizations and future generations. The importance of leading environmentally friendly businesses gains significant traction every day. Learn ways to minimize your business's carbon footprint and how it can impact the bottom line.
Speaker: Laura Turner Seydel
Laura Turner Seydel is an international environmental advocate and eco-living expert dedicated to creating a healthy and sustainable future for our children.
Laura is chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation which promotes hands-on environmental education projects worldwide. She is a director of and works with the Environmental Working Group to limit the toxic chemicals in food, air, water and consumer products. In 2004 she co-founded Mothers and Others for Clean Air and is currently the Chair of the Board, and in 1994 she and her husband co-founded Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.
Laura serves on her family’s foundation boards including The Turner Foundation, Jane Smith Turner Foundation, the Turner Endangered Species Fund, and Ted’s Montana Grill. She is vice chair of League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and sits on additional national boards including League of Conservation Voters, Defenders of Wildlife, Waterkeeper Alliance, the Carter Center Board of Councilors, as well as serving on the advisory board for the Ray C. Anderson Foundation. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Downtown Atlanta. Laura lives with her husband and her three children in their home, EcoManor, the first LEED certified Gold residence in the southeastern United States.
Stock the HomeStretch Pantry!
For our December charity giving event, SHRM-Atlanta is partnering with HomeStretch to assist their families have a warm and wonderful holiday. As you may know HomeStretch guides homeless working families with minor children in North Metro Atlanta toward increased self-reliance and stability by providing life-skills training, mentoring and supportive housing. SHRM-Atlanta would like to ensure that all families have enough food to eat and other household supplies to get them through the holiday season. We are asking all Chapter meeting participants to bring a donation of canned food items or other household necessities to the December Chapter meeting. Suggested items include:
• Canned food items (tuna, chicken, soups, vegetables, fruits, beans)
• Pasta and spaghetti sauce
• Jelly, jams and honey
• Condiments (ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, salad dressing, vegetable oil)
• Sugar and flour
• Peanut Butter
• New linens (towels, kitchen linens, twin/full sheets, pillows)
• Cleaning supplies (Mr. Clean magic erasers, oven cleaner)
• Personal hygiene supplies (soap, lotion, toothpaste/brushes)
• Laundry detergent
