Beyond Race & Gender: Correlating Diversity with Positive Results

Is your company experiencing positive results from your Diversity and Inclusion efforts? Even though your company may be seeing positive results, it is not always easy to generate metrics. SHRM-Atlanta and TAG Diversity are joining forces and this diverse group of panelists, from some of Atlanta’s most respected companies, will share how their companies are showing positive results from their D&I practices.

Helene Lollis is president of PATHBUILDERS, an organization that partners with clients to develop top-tier talent through mentoring and leadership development, with special expertise in developing high-potential women. She guides strategic direction and program development, provides high-level partnership with clients, and represents Pathbuilders in the community. Trained as a chemical engineer, Helene spent 12 years with Amoco and BP Corporation in plastics process design, product development, marketing, strategic planning and company mergers and acquisitions. Helene is frequently invited to speak on the topics of mentoring, women in the workplace and career planning. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from N.C. State and Purdue Universities. 

Judy Agerton is Regional Vice President – External Affairs for AT&T located in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position she is responsible for corporate activities relating to community and public relations and represents AT&T before various external stakeholders. Her responsibilities include strategic planning on the use of contribution funds, recommending grant proposals to the AT&T Foundation and establishing policies and programs. Judy has held various positions of increasing responsibility in finance, information technology, marketing, network and customer care. Her expertise includes product management, project management, billing system management, advertising and promotions, strategic planning, regulatory strategy and call center operations.  She has worked on both the regulated and non-regulated offerings of AT&T. Judy is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science, Business Marketing, degree and member of the Alpha Mu Alpha Society. She has a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University. 

Lisa Gutierrez, Senior Director of Diversity & Inclusion for Cox Enterprises, serves as a strategic thought partner to all the Cox divisions specifically in creating and implementing their diversity and inclusion strategies, developing practices and processes to attract and retain diverse talent, promoting inclusion throughout the organization and leveraging diversity to deliver on the Cox commitment to People, Community, Customers and Vendors.
In addition to launching her own consulting firm, LG Strategies, LLC, most recently, she served as the Executive Director of Global Diversity at Cummins, Inc., where she led all global diversity and inclusion functions and strategies, including internal consulting, education and communication for 50,000 employees in more than 50 countries. Gutierrez earned a B.S. degree in marketing and organizational management from the University of Colorado at Boulder. A native of New Mexico, she devotes her free time to family, which includes her beagle, Kola; friendships; personal coaching; and lifelong learning. She has traveled extensively, both within the United States and abroad.
Sue Sears is Vice President of Global Diversity & Inclusion at Kimberly-Clark Corporation where she is responsible for working with the global businesses to advance and embed the company’s key diversity growth strategies and initiatives for business impact. Sue is the executive sponsor of the Women’s Sales network in KC representing all 4 business units in North America. Sue is passionate about advancing women in KC as well as people of color and has been extremely active in this area during her career with KC. Previously, Sue worked in Kimberly-Clark Professional (KCP) where she led the Global Marketing & Sales team.  She was accountable for the development of global marketing strategies and customer management strategies including global national accounts. She was also responsible for new and emerging channels of distribution and category development. In 2012, she led the creation and adoption of the new mission in KCP of “Creating Exceptional Workplaces.” Sue graduated with honors in Business Education from the University of Delaware. She, her husband, and three grown children reside in Media, Pennsylvania. Her hobbies include traveling, aerobics, swimming and raising funds & awareness for Breast & Ovarian cancer.

Richard A. Smith brings an extensive background in human capital along with a well-developed ability to translate customer needs into value-added solutions. His specific industry experience includes consumer products, retail, diverse manufacturing, financial services, hotel & leisure, quick service restaurants, healthcare, technology, communications, non-profit and energy. Over the course of his work history, Mr. Smith has been recognized for his perceptive listening skills and for being a creative problem solver with a bias for action. In his most recent role, Mr. Smith was with the Terex Corporation as the Director of Global Diversity and Inclusion. Mr. Smith has been a featured speaker to several organizations including TAG Diversity, Norfolk Southern Diversity Council's Fall Brunch & Learn, SHRM, NAAAHR, Kettering Group, Mulling Corporation, National Black MBA Association and the National Society of Public Relations Professionals, and has been a guest on WGKA-AM's The Career Doctors with Craig Allen and Business Radio X’s Professional Atlanta with Andrew Dietz. Mr. Smith graduated from The Bolles School, Jacksonville, FL and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida. He also holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Development from Webster University, St. Louis, MO.
