Hiring to Make a Difference…and a Profit!
While many companies see the strategic value of hiring a diverse workforce that reflects the communities they serve, there are often challenges to finding diverse candidates that are prepared for the jobs that are open. From veterans, under-served youth, individuals with disabilities, to women and children rescued from human trafficking, there is a large and often untapped workforce with unlimited potential for success and dramatically improved quality of life. However, the reality is, much of this workforce is not yet prepared for the jobs that are available. Fortunately, there are a number of businesses and nonprofit organizations that are working together to close this dual talent and opportunity gap. In short, they are supporting these groups, who may have significant barriers to employment, train for professional careers, ultimately building the organizations' talent pipeline and business success at the same time.

Protip Biswas serves as Vice President, Homelessness and Community Outreach at the United Way of Greater Atlanta. In his current position, he provides staff leadership to the Regional Commission on Homelessness (RCOH) which provides ensures coordination and implementation of the strategies to end homelessness in the region. The RCOH team has been the catalyst in creating over 2500 units of supportive housing, creating 1200 jobs for homeless persons, reunified over 8000 persons and raised over $50 million for homeless projects. He is also responsible for the planning and implementation of place based strategies in the community. The increase in poverty in the suburbs and the lack of mobility makes these efforts critical. The opportunity zones are important in trying to bring best practices to address the critical needs of working families. He has a graduate degree in architecture from University of Cincinnati and another in construction management from SPA, Delhi, India. He also completed his coursework for his doctoral studies in Urban Planning at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. His research interest includes affordable housing finance, community economic development and social capital. He is an adjunct faculty at Beulah University and an instructor (affordable housing workshops) for Neighbor Works America.
Larry Elmore has over 20 years of global experience in talent management, leadership development and learning. He has been responsible for supporting business units in the US, Europe, Australia, Latin America, and Canada. He has worked with such organizations as Brambles, Newell Rubbermaid, Grainger, PepsiCo and Mobil Oil. He is currently the VP of Talent Management at Graphic Packaging International, which provides packaging for hundreds of the world’s most recognized brands. Larry received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Hampton University.
Audra Jenkins is the Senior Director of Diversity and Compliance in the Recruiting & Innovation Center of Expertise (COE) at Randstad Sourceright. In this role, Jenkins leads the COE in helping Randstad Sourceright’s clients understand and achieve evolving regulatory compliance goals and develop effective diversity strategies. Experts in U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), and global diversity-related regulations, Jenkins and the COE provide diversity and compliance planning, audit and risk assessment services, training, formal governance practices and regulatory updates to keep clients informed on the requirements that impact their recruiting strategies. Jenkins holds a Master’s in Business Administration with a Human Resources concentration, and a Bachelor’s in Finance from the University of North Carolina. A member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), she is also a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP), a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and a Six Sigma Greenbelt.
Sally K. Meaders has been the Nobis Enterprises HR Program Manager, since 2012, for Nobis Enterprises a subsidiary of Nobis Works, a non-profit community rehabilitation program located in Marietta, GA. Nobis Works helps individuals with all types of disabilities to enter or return to employment, and to enjoy productive and independent lifestyles while contributing to the greater business community. Since 1977, they have helped more than 25,000 individuals find dignity and workplace success. As the Nobis Enterprises HR Program Manager, she is responsible for 3 national government contracts in 16 states, 18 cities. Prior to working for Nobis Enterprise she served on the Nobis Works Board of Directors for 6 years. Sally K. Meaders has 29 years of HR experience and has been a member of SHRM since 1998. She served on the SHRM-Atlanta Membership Committee from 1996-1999 and in 2000, served as a SHRM-Atlanta Conference Committee Co-Chair.
Savana Santiago is a Veteran and Military Spouse Recruiter at First Data, supporting the company’s military initiative First Data Salutes. In her role, Savana assists veterans and military spouses throughout their application, interview and on-boarding processes. First Data is a global leader in payment technologies and merchant services. Prior to joining the company, Savana served as a Recruiting and Retention Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) for the Army National Guard for over 10 years. Her Army career also extended beyond recruiting as Savana served as a Human Resource NCO for the Army National Guard where she deployed to Camp Buehring in Udari, Kuwait. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration and is currently enrolled in Post University’s graduate program, studying Business Administration with a Project Management concentration.
