The Candidate Experience during the recruiting process communicates a great deal. A candidate - in the digital environment - and their social networks can gain and share insights about a company's culture, job functions, leadership acumen and potentially organizational performance.
In 2014, Assurant was recognized with the CandE Award for delivering an exceptional candidate experience. Assurant was selected based on survey feedback from selected and non-selected candidates. The CandE Award provided Assurant, and other participating companies, with the opportunity to benchmark our candidate experience against other employers.

Speaker: Deborah Wilson Thomas, Vice President, Talent Acquisition, Assurant
Deborah Wilson Thomas currently serves as the Vice President of Talent Acquisition (TA) for Assurant since 2011. In her role, she leads the TA function for the Fortune 500 Company which serves as a premier provider of specialized insurance products and related services in North American and select worldwide markets. As the VP of TA, she and her team lead the talent acquisition strategy and execution of all aspects of talent acquisition activities including vendor management, contingent and permanent hires to proactively meet the dynamic demands of the business. Deborah’s specialties include talent acquisition and management, executive coaching, career counseling, strategic planning, change management, leadership development, organizational development and team building.
Previously, Deborah served as a Vice President and Director of Human Resources for Cox Communications. She was responsible for the development and execution of Cox’s human resources strategies and culture change initiatives, including leadership development, talent and performance management, organizational development, employee relations, diversity, recruitment and retention, and compensation.
Deborah is a graduate of Hampton University where she earned a B.S. in Finance and earned a M.B.A. at the Darden Graduate School of Business – University of Virginia, where she was a PepsiCo fellow.
Bring your Gently Worn Professional or Work Shoes to the February Chapter Meeting:
One of our community partners, the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency, (www.atlantacss.org) is in need of your gently worn men’s and women’s shoes. So, we are kicking off a shoe drive that promises to yield (we hope) gently worn men’s and women’s shoes, which are the hardest/scarcest items in their clothes closet. Our dream is that the shelves in the clothes closet will be bursting with interview type shoes and work shoes. We never will turn away new work boots or restaurant quality non-slip shoes either! Every pair of work shoes/boots = a job!
What is ACSS? They are a great group that provides comprehensive job readiness skills and training to the homeless. Every month a group of individuals called VIP’s (Visionary Innovative Partners) will graduate from a three week program called CareerWorks. CareerWorks provides all the resources a homeless person needs to plan and carry out a successful job search. 70% of their VIPs find employment and 75% retain that employment after 180 days. We have partnered with them this year by asking our members to bring men’s and women’s business clothing to our chapter meetings to be donated to their clothing closet. Now we are asking for volunteers to help in our shoe drive! Your donation could help change lives.
