Detecting Deception for HR Professionals

In today's job market with tough competition to stand out and look good, it is no wonder that potential job candidates may sometimes resort to lying on their resumes or embellish past work-related behavior. In this session, participants will be provided with a methodology, as well as a valuable set of behavioral assessment skills that can assist HR professionals on what to look for during the interview process while also increasing their level of confidence for evaluating the veracity of information being provided by the prospective job candidate. Research on verbal and nonverbal indicators of deception will be outlined and what to look for in order to maximize the information gathered when conducting interviews will be discussed.
1. Learn the observational skills and practical strategies necessary for assessing the reliability and veracity of information during the interview process.
2. Learn to enhance communication skills that can facilitate interviewee responsiveness.
3. Learn how to formulate effective interviewing questions and ways to follow-up to address potential issues.

Dr. Dana Ann Clark is President of Organizational Talent Solutions and has 25 years of personality assessment and behavioral training experience assisting companies identify and manage their organizational talent management needs. As a former personality expert with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), she has provided behavior assessment training to law enforcement and the intelligence community where the veracity of information can make a critical difference in high stakes decision making. As a strategic talent management consultant, executive selection expert, and corporate trainer, she has provided her assessment expertise in assisting Human Resource professionals manage their human capital needs while supporting high-value, high-risks decisions. Dr. Clark is certified on a number of assessment instruments and offers world-class interpretation support to identify social, emotional, and behavioral factors to address performance management goals. She is a member of SHRM and has a doctorate in Human Systems and Counseling from Florida State University.
