Creating Sustainable Behavioral Change with Employee Wellness

In order for Employee Wellness to be effective, it has to lead to sustainable behavioral change; it cannot merely be a fad or fleeting emphasis. Behavioral change is critical to the success of an employee wellness plan and this session will explain the why, what and how of sustainable behavioral change. Practical instruction will provide tools to assist in meeting the goals of behavioral change for both individuals and organizations desiring to see measurable improvement in health. The presentation will include examples of organizations that are experiencing effective change, door prizes and engaging communication.   

Learning Objectives:
• Attendees will discover how and why employee behavior is the greatest contributor to rising health costs.
• Attendees will be taught Prochaska’s stages of change. 
• Attendees will be provided instruction on how employees can be motivated to make lasting behavioral change in regards to health.

Jack W. Bruce Jr., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, is the director of marketing for Apollo Healthcare where he champions a self-funding option for medical insurance that includes a strong employee wellness engagement. Prior to joining Apollo Healthcare, Jack served as the chief operating officer of an Atlanta employee benefits firm where he oversaw operations and all HR functions. Jack has been active in SHRM-Atlanta since 2005, serving in various volunteer capacities. He is a recipient of the SHRM-Atlanta 2011 and 2013 Presidential Volunteer Leadership Award. Jack is a graduate of Crown College in Minnesota and has a Masters of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in New York, and holds a Georgia Life and Health License. Jack also writes on team building, leadership, HR and wellness via his two blogs, JackInTheTeamBox.com and RavingWellness.com.

Jack Curtis is the CEO of Corporate Health Partners, LLC (CHP), based in Atlanta. CHP provides comprehensive, systematic wellness programming featuring engaging, face-to-face health coaching for employers at their worksites. Jack founded CHP in Nashville in 2002 after previously serving as President of LIFESIGNS and General Manager of a Berkshire Hathaway business. Jack is a long time member of the HERO Think Tank, and chairs the Leadership Committee, one of the three committees that do the work of the Think Tank. (HERO is the Health Enhancement Research Organization, composed of thought leaders among employers and providers engaged in Employee Health Management). Jack is also a member of the “League of Leaders” that guide IHC (the Institute for Healthcare Consumerism). Jack earned a BS in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and later earned an MS in Engineering Management from the University of Tennessee.
