11:00am – 12:00pm: A Real Life Wellness Case Study....Our Journey to Manage Health Costs with Wellness

Speakers: Natalie Malin-Davis, Sr. Director, HR, Concurrent Computer Corporation, Roxann Drew, Wellness Consultant, Northwestern Benefit Corporation of Georgia & Kristel Calvert, Consumer Experience Consultant, Humana Vitality

This presentation is a partnership between Concurrent, our benefits broker, Northwestern, and our medical carrier, Humana. Concurrent created and has executed a wellness program for over 4 years. This presentation will share our journey to help manage costs with wellness. The presentation will allow companies looking to start a wellness program to understand program elements, costs associated, and potential legal pitfalls. Participants will be able to walk away with examples on how to start their own program. We think this presentation will be unique compared to other wellness presentations in that we are not selling a product, we have a partnership between the company/client, the broker, and the broker. Lastly, we have good data to support our results.

Natalie Malin-DavisNatalie Malin-Davis is the Senior Director of Human Resources for Concurrent Computer Corporation, a global software development company. Natalie is responsible for Concurrent’s global human resources strategy to support domestic and international growth opportunities across the company. Her responsibilities span a wide generalist scope across the employee life cycle including talent acquisition thru termination, and all points in between. Prior to Concurrent, Natalie had prior progressive human resources leadership roles working within service oriented industries focused on growing revenue including Recall, CoStar, and RJ Reynolds Tobacco, and Coors Beer. Natalie earned a MBA from the University of Phoenix and has an undergraduate degree in Communications from California State University, Fullerton.

Roxann DrewRoxann Drew is a Certified Wellness Program Coordinator and Certified Health Educator Specialist and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and Behavior. Roxann has worked at Northwestern Benefit for the past four years, in the Wellness Coordinator role and now has been promoted to Wellness Consultant. This past year, Roxann worked with over 100 of Northwestern Benefit clients; coordinated health fairs, screenings, and flu shots, attended wellness team meetings, assisted in vendor RFP’s and management and conducted consultative meetings with creating a clear strategy for worksite wellness programs. Prior to her role at Northwestern Benefit, Roxann was employed at a Fortune 500 Company in Atlanta, Georgia as a Health and Fitness Specialist for their 5,000 life group. In this role she assisted in developing and implementing a comprehensive employee wellness program and piloting the program among twelve different locations nationwide. Additionally, Roxann led exercise classes, organized monthly lunch and learns and assisted in the implementation of their annual health fair.

Kristel CalvertKristel Calvert has been employed in the Insurance industry for more than 10 years, with a focus on Wellness since 2012. She entered the industry in 2005 on the broker side, and spent the majority of her time there in Account Management. One of her primary roles was to educate employees on the benefit offerings available to them. As part of those meetings, Kristel also helped employees become better consumers of the plans they selected. She worked with several clients who implemented Wellness programs as part of their offering, which led her to pursue a role more focused in this area. Kristel joined Humana in June 2012 as a Wellness Engagement Advisor, working directly with clients to develop and execute wellness strategies using our HumanaVitality platform. As the demand for this role has grown over the past two years, Kristel has moved into the position of Consumer Experience Consultant. She continues to drive engagement in HumanaVitality, while also providing long term wellness planning. Kristel became WELCOA certified in April of 2016 and continues to pursue other designations.

1:45pm – 2:45pm: What's Next in Wellness and Total Rewards

Speaker: Brandon Conkle, Executive Director - Compensation and Benefits, Hertz Rental Equipment Company

A general overview of trends in wellness and how wellness programs interact with the concept of "total rewards". From Wellness as a tool to control costs, wellness as a tool for engagement, to wellness as a reward in and of itself. How does the choice to define what an employer wellness program is and how it is used can intersect with the rewards philosophy of a company.

  • Ability to conceptualize ways to communicate wellness as part of the overall rewards strategy

Brandon ConkleBrandon Conkle is Executive Director of Compensation and Benefits at Hertz Rental Equipment Company. Prior to that, Brandon was director of Total Rewards at the Georgia Institute of Technology and at the Weather Channel here in Atlanta. He has worked in a variety of industries from government, to high tech, to entertainment, to home and automotive retailing, as well as women's fashion. He was born in East Point, GA and spent his very early childhood in Georgia Tech student apartments while his father continued his master’s degree. Brandon spent most of his life in North Carolina and Virginia. He has degrees in Politics and Psychology as well as an MBA from Wake Forest University and a Masters in Industrial Organizational Psychology from East Carolina University. His thesis was a study of income and religion affecting reported levels of life satisfaction. Brandon and his wife, Brennie, have two young boys. In his spare time, Brandon enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and more reading, as he meets the true definition of “history buff” and is a dedicated Wake Forest Sports Fan.

This presentation will highlight three companies that have successfully maintained worksite wellness programs utilizing their human resources team. You will hear from Human Resources professionals that have been able to build wellness programming into their everyday duties and create impactful change for their organization. They will share how to implement best practices, discuss tips and tricks for others to take back with them to their organization and share success stories.

Mary PozatekMary Pozatek leads the Northwestern Benefit Corporation’s Corporate Wellness initiatives, where she is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining worksite wellness programming for each of her clients. She is a Certified Worksite Wellness Consultant and has achieved Faculty status from WELCOA (Wellness Council of America.) With over 15 years’ experience in the health promotion field and a Master’s Degree from the University of Florida in Exercise and Sports Science, Mary is able to create impactful and culture changing initiatives and programs regardless of client size or available resources.

Keri ArnettKeri Arnett is the Human Resource Benefits Manager for MailChimp, the world's leading email marketing company. The HR Benefits team is responsible for the overall administration of employee benefits and health and wellness programs for the company's 500+ employees. Keri has 10+ years of diverse experience including Human Resource benefit administration and client service management. Keri is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Consumer Economics.

Valerie_BrownValerie Brown is responsible for leading the development, direction, and execution of the Human Resources function for a number of Portman Companies – Portman Holdings, John Portman and Associates, Portman Management Company and Atlanta Decorative Arts Center. Throughout her career, Valerie has been responsible for developing solid human resources programs in rapidly growing companies. She has over 20 years of Human Resources experience, having held several senior leadership and business partner positions with TriMont Real Estate Advisors, Cypress Communications and Charles Schwab. Valerie earned a Bachelor of Science in Public and Urban Affairs with a concentration in Human Resources from Georgia State University. She holds the Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) designation from the Society for Human Resource Management and the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation from the Human Resources Certification Institute.

Claudia CooperClaudia Cooper is the Employee Development Coordinator with Henry County Water Authority in McDonough, GA. She is responsible for performing all aspects of HR at the Authority, with primary focus on succession planning, performance management, talent development, executive coaching and wellness. Prior to coming to the Authority, Claudia worked for a fortune 500 company where she managed the development and delivery of worldwide SAP training, as well as the Learning Academy. She also managed the HRIS function that directly supported the HR functions of Payroll, Benefits, HR and HR technology, and served as a strategic member of their Human Resources Steering Committee. Claudia received her PHR certification in 2009 and her SHRM-CP in 2015. She has been a member of Greater Henry SHRM since 2010, a member of SHRM Atlanta since 2007, and a National SHRM member since 2007. Claudia is also a member of GLGPA where she holds a CHRMP certification. Claudia currently serves as the President-Elect of the Greater Henry County Chapter of SHRM.
