Fighting over Transparency... Impacting Costs

Costs for the same procedure in the same network and the same market vary significantly from one provider to another. How do patients know what they can expect to pay? How can employers reduce costs by providing tools to their employees that provide cost information to them?

This session will provide a basic foundation on the transparency industry and the current tools that are currently used by consumers to compare cost and quality. It will cover what impediments there are for a patient who wants to use a lower cost provider. Key components for success and several case studies will also be presented as well as an overview of member incentive and engagement strategies.

Speaker: Jane Cooper, President & CEO, Patient Care

Jane Cooper is founder, President and CEO of Patient Care, the nation's leading advocacy company, based in Milwaukee, WI. The company began operations in August, 2001 and launched its transparency division in 2005. Ms. Cooper has over 30 years experience in the health care industry, serving in management positions for 19 years. As a serial entrepreneur, she has started and led five healthcare companies since the early 1980s. As President and CEO of Advantage Health Plan in New Orleans, Louisiana, she developed the fastest growing HMO in the state in the late 1990s. As President and CEO of Patient Care she is a leader in the advocacy industry and has also consulted and spoken nationally on health care issues and publishes articles on the industry on a regular basis. Ms. Cooper has a Bachelor's of Liberal Arts from Augustana College in Illinois and a Master's of Art from Western Illinois University, with a major in speech and communication.

He has also consulted with hundreds of organizations - from family businesses to Fortune 500 companies - to develop recognition strategies for employee retention and performance improvement. When he is not busy championing the advancement of employee recognition awareness around the globe, Mike spends his time competing in Ironman triathlon events and Rock 'n' roll Marathons. His experiences lend him a unique perspective on personal motivation and inspiration, and how they affect everyone in today's fast-changing workplace. Mike earned his M.B.A. from Chaminade University Honolulu. He attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan for his undergraduate studies.
