The Pinnacle Award Program is designed to recognize outstanding achievements in chapter/state council development and contributions to the advancement of effective human resource management. All SHRM professional chapters and state councils are eligible to compete in this program. Winners will each receive a $1,000 grant presented at a chapter/state council meeting with special recognition in SHRM publications and during the Leadership Conference.
SHRM-Atlanta Earns 2008 SHRM Pinnacle Award
(Alexandria, Va.), December 1, 2008— SHRM-Atlanta has received a 2008 Pinnacle Award, sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) for excellence in chapter, professional and membership activities.
The Pinnacle is the most prestigious chapter award offered by the SHRM, which represents more than 250,000 human resource (HR) professionals around the world.

In 2008, only eight of the more than 570 SHRM chapters nationwide were selected for this annual award, which recognizes outstanding programs that demonstrate excellence in the human resource profession. The Pinnacle Awards were established in 1991. SHRM-Atlanta received this honor because of its community outreach program supporting the Atlanta Mayor’s Youth Program. Founded by Mayor Shirley Franklin for students in the Atlanta Public School system and children of Atlanta City workers, and focusing on high school seniors, the program is designed to assist and advise students about their college options and prepare them for summer internships.
SHRM-Atlanta volunteers have helped over 1200 Atlanta high school seniors by facilitating workforce readiness training, one-on-one interviewing practice, and help with college applications. It is SHRM-Atlanta’s goal to help find summer internship opportunities and provide core workforce skills training in such areas as interviewing, communication, business ethics and time management as well as proper work attire. This is SHRM-Atlanta’s way of giving back to the community.

SHRM-Atlanta Earns 2007 SHRM Pinnacle Award
SHRM-ATLANTA has received a 2007 Pinnacle Award from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for excellence in chapter, professional and membership activities. The Pinnacle is the most prestigious chapter award offered by SHRM, which represents more than 225,000 human resource (HR) professionals around the world. In 2007, only eight of the more than 575 SHRM chapters nationwide were selected for this annual award, which recognizes outstanding programs that demonstrate excellence in the human resource profession. The Pinnacle Awards were established in 1991. SHRM-ATLANTA received this honor because of our membership growth initiative encompassing new outreach efforts, increased member value, and more resources dedicated to better serve the chapter.
SHRM-Atlanta saw record success in 2007 as membership grew from 1,630 to over 2,300 members. The first critical step in achieving and sustaining this growth is to fulfill our mission and purpose by providing professional development, networking forums, knowledge transfer channels, certification opportunities and other services to as many HR professionals as possible. Today, HR professionals need to demonstrate new skills and competencies. Those who aspire to leadership roles will have to become more strategic, proactive and involved in the overall business of their employer. SHRM-Atlanta has embraced the challenge to bridge the gap between the HR professional of today and the HR professional who will be in demand tomorrow.
During 2007 SHRM-Atlanta launched new member benefits including free (to members) PEG workshops, online webinars, and other special events. We added more programming approved for strategic credits, more opportunities to participate in added activities and to volunteer.
