In this presentation, we are going to review common industry terminology with a dash of historical content (Why was the first medical deductible $100?) and emerging benefit trends (What is an Accountable Care Organization and why is this a good thing?). We will have some fun and hopefully learn a thing or two. The secession will be geared to the novice benefit manager trying to give them a better understanding of the traditional employer sponsored benefit plans (life, disability, medical, dental, etc.), answer the question, “What is worksite benefits and why should I offer them?”, explain why “Executive Benefits” are important and finally, give an overview of 401(k) plans and the importance of offering a retirement plan so that your associates are prepared for “life after work”. We will discuss common terminology as it relates to the benefit arena.

In a recent survey, 80% of HR professionals reported interpersonal communication as a significant component necessary to advance their careers. Of those, nearly 80% of directors and executives rated communication as one of the most important skills required for those working in HR. It’s clear that effective communication continues to be a prominent need in the workplace. When it comes to performance evaluations, communication is often one of the areas managers give prominence to when addressing areas needing improvement. Why is this? Why does communication continue to be an issue?
