Team SHRM-Atlanta Volunteers with Back on My Feet

Posted By SHRM-Atlanta, Tuesday, November 26, 2019

On November 15th, 2019 Team SHRM-Atlanta members partnered with Back on My Feet to facilitate a Workforce Development workshop, “How to Keep a Job” for 15 of their members. Key themes and best practices shared were around Communication, Conflict Resolution, Time Management and Personal Branding. Attendees were excited to share the ways that they will be able to leverage their key learnings to thrive in their careers.

Thank you to SHRM-Atlanta member Kiley Buckner for introducing us to Back on My Feet. We appreciate you Heather Turton for your leadership and many thanks to Craig Southern and Tanzania Wiles for volunteering and sharing your wisdom with the attendees.

Being a part of “Team SHRM-Atlanta” allows our members the opportunity to share our HR knowledge and expertise with others in order to have a positive impact on their careers and lives.

We look forward to our continued partnership with Back on My Feet in 2020!

Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit that combats homelessness by using the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources. Our unique running-based model demonstrates that if you first restore confidence, strength, and self-esteem, individuals are better equipped to tackle the road ahead and move toward jobs, homes, and new lives. Our success is measured not only by the health impact of miles run, but also by how many individuals obtain education, employment, and housing. Over 70% of our members successfully move their lives forward through employment, education, or housing which translates to more than 7,000 jobs and homes. BoMF members enthusiastically strive to learn more and to prepare themselves for either returning to the workforce or improving their current position. Working with getting people transitioning out of homelessness a job may be different than when you were applying to work.

SHRM-Atlanta wins Platinum EXCEL Award For Elevating Human Resources, Improving Workplaces

Posted By SHRM-Atlanta, Friday, June 21, 2019

SHRM-Atlanta, the premier professional community for those in Human Resources and people management, was recently awarded a prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award by SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) for SHRM-Atlanta’s accomplishments in 2018.

The EXCEL award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes major accomplishments, strategic activities, and tactical initiatives that elevate the profession of human resources.

“Through their courage and leadership, SHRM-Atlanta is driving true, measurable progress toward the healthy, productive, and dynamic workplaces of tomorrow,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Awarding this Platinum Excel Award is just one small way for SHRM to recognize and celebrate the big steps SHRM-Atlanta has taken this past year.”

The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. To receive the Platinum EXCEL award, SHRM-Atlanta submitted an application outlining four initiatives:

1. Conversations That Count: We created an interactive learning experience that offered an opportunity for members to network and build a stronger sense of SHRM-Atlanta community, while gaining valuable insights from leading subject-matter experts.

2. Event+ Registration: We offered Event+ registration option at SOAHR, which included a reduced membership rate with conference registration, and we were successful in increasing membership retention and grew SHRM-Atlanta membership overall.

3. Accomplished Leaders Exchange: We created exclusive senior HR leader invitation-only Exchanges to attract and engage accomplished leaders to SHRM-Atlanta. Exchanges are designed to encourage peer to peer dialogue with like-minded HR professionals who are driving strategic initiatives.

4. Get Your SHIFT Together: SHRM-Atlanta partnered with NAAAHR-Atlanta to jointly create an event called SHIFT (Start Having Intentionality in Focusing your Talents). The event provided impactful HR career advice and guidance to HR professionals who are in transition or who would like to make a change; considering HR as a profession; or new to the Atlanta HR job market.

Thank you to everyone who helped SHRM-Atlanta win this award!
