Success Strategies to Developing and Leading a Veteran Employment and Engagement Program

US military personnel are known for their leadership skills. UPS has put these skills to great use over the years. George Casey, one of the company’s founders, was a Navy veteran of World War I and since then three of UPS’s ten CEO’s have served in the military. UPS plans to hire at least 50,000 veterans and volunteer at least 50,000 hours for veterans by 2018 as part of the Obama administration’s Joining Forces Initiative. UPS continues to rely on current and former members of the military to bring their valuable skills and experience to our company and our communities. Through our employment initiatives, as well as business and charitable support, UPS works to support the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

Speaker: Chris Peck, Vice President, Corporate Human Resources, UPS

Chris Peck, Vice President of Corporate Human Resources, is responsible for all aspects of the employee lifecycle for UPS' 425,000 global employees. Committed to maintaining UPS's reputation as an employer of choice, Chris oversees UPS' human capital strategy in identifying, cultivating and engaging a diverse and highly skilled workforce committed to world-class service and safety. 

Chris has spent three decades with UPS, with experience in operations, HR and global strategy development. After university he was promoted to multiple US line operations and HR assignments in New Jersey, California, Indiana and Virginia. In 2001, Chris was expatriated to Belgium where he took on an assignment as Vice President of Human Resources & Labor for UPS’ Europe, Middle East & Africa region. During his tenure, he oversaw the acquisition and integration of two large domestic transportation companies in the UK and Poland, as well as the European business integration of prior acquisitions. 

Chris’ decade of international experience was then leveraged with an assignment in UPS’ Corporate Strategy group. Among his achievements in this role, Chris enhanced UPS’ retail franchise (The UPS Store), acquired and started up UPS’ Middle East joint venture in Dubai, and expanded UPS’ Global Commercial Healthcare strategy. In 2011 he assumed senior HR leadership for UPS' largest operating region worldwide, based in New York City. He assumed his current role in Atlanta in May 2014. 

Dedicated to his country and his community, he proudly served for nearly 22 years in the US Air Force & National Guard. He is passionately committed to veterans’ causes and is active with the Paralyzed Veterans of America and American Corporate Partners. Chris also serves as Vice-Chair of the New York Urban League Board of Directors. Chris obtained his BA in Economics from Rutgers University, his MBA from Saint Mary’s College, and professional certifications as Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) and Global Professional in HR (GPHR) from HRCI.
