December Chapter Meeting

Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia | Thursday, December 8 | 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM | #SHRMATL

That Michelangelo Moment: Sustained Excellence Amid Chaos and Uncertainty

Speaker: Dr. Paul J. Voss, Ph.D., Ethikos

Dr. Paul J. Voss, Ph.D., of Ethikos will present "That Michelangelo Moment: Sustained Excellence Amid Chaos and Uncertainty." This presentation will examine how our situations and reactions determine our success or failure.

Come and join SHRM-Atlanta and your colleagues for a transformative end-of-year experience! HR professionals often find themselves in an environment of consistent change. Whether acting as a change agent or living the change ourselves, HR leaders and employees alike need to develop skills for adaptation and intellectual agility, with implementation often required at a moment’s notice. Our December Chapter Meeting will provide a unique perspective relating artistic influences in history to acquiring the tools and resources needed to succeed in complex environments during times of change.

For example, an unknown man in Florentine in 1499 named Michelangelo created the sculpture “Pietà” from a block of brilliant white Carrara Marble. Michelangelo always considered himself a sculptor and he dedicated his life to working with a hammer and chisel. However, only 9 years later, Michelangelo was forced to pick up a brush and palette, as he worked for over four years to complete his magnificent ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. In 1547, Michelangelo once again needed to adapt to a changing environment as he accepted the position of Capo Maestro (head architect) of St Peter’s Basilica.

In this inspiring presentation, Dr. Paul J. Voss, Ph.D., of Ethikos, will examine how our situations and our reactions are what determine our success or failure. Join us as we learn how ongoing development of new platforms and tools in the workplace implore that we keep our skill sets as HR leader sharp to lead our organization through times of change.

Learning Objectives:

• Define culture with precision

• Examine the implications of the "experience economy" on HR leaders

• Understanding and application of intelligent adaptation in leading in times of change.
