The Value of Engagement

Engaged employees are more committed, productive, competent, and provide better customer service. However, most research suggests that employees are becoming more and more disengaged. What types of programs are successful companies implementing to enhance engagement? What is HR doing to help companies view employee engagement and well-being as a bottom-line necessity? 

This Power Breakfast will feature a panel of C-suite level experts who will discuss what their companies are doing to enhance employee engagement.

Christie Bell is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.  She has also earned a MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a concentration in Organizational Behavior.  Christie joined Porter Keadle Moore, LLP as Director of Human Resources in March of 2009.  Christie is responsible for the design and execution of all areas of HR including recruiting, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training and employee development.  In addition, she works in the areas of change management, succession and organizational planning and employee communications.  Prior to PKM, Christie worked as a Human Resources Business Partner at EarthLink for 3 years and was a recruiter in the IT staffing industry for 4 years.  Christie has a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and is an active member of the Society of Human Resources (SHRM) national and Atlanta chapters.

Stacie Hagan is Chief People Officer for EarthLink, Inc., a leading provider of Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure and services to medium-sized and large businesses, enterprise organizations, and over 1.5 million residential customers across the United States. As a member of EarthLink’s executive team, Stacie is responsible for overall people strategy design and implementation including organization design, workforce and succession planning, talent development, compensation, benefits, HRIS, recruiting, employee relations and compliance. Stacie is a member of the Board of Directors for the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), and for the Human Resources Leadership Forum (HRLF). She is a graduate of Yale University.

Frank Romeo, a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), serves as UPS’s Global Employee Relations Manager based at the company’s Corporate Office in Atlanta. Frank has more than 36 years of experience with UPS and has held positions in operations and Human Resources (H.R.). Like many UPSers, Frank began his UPS career while in college as a part-time package handler in Secaucus, NJ. Frank holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology from New Jersey City State University.  He is a strong supporter of United Way and UPS’s annual campaign efforts, a frequent volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and a committee member of the Georgia Transplant Foundation Committee.  

Thomas Spahr joined The Home Depot in February 2000 and is currently Vice President of Learning and HR Vice President for Information Technology.  He has responsibility for the design and delivery of the company’s training and development programs. This includes store associate operations, systems, customer service, and product knowledge training as well as leadership training for managers. In addition, he has HR generalist responsibility for the Information Technology department, with 1,500 associates in the Store Support Center and in the field. In his previous role as Vice President of Human Resources, he had responsibility for all aspects of human resources (HR) management for the Company’s Northern Division, with more than 100,000 associates and 700 stores.
