VETs Initiative: The Next Deployment – Integrating Veterans into the Workforce

Many of our veterans are looking to re-enter the workplace – for them it is "The Next Deployment." View the video presentation of this exciting panel, presented at the  22nd Annual SHRM-Atlanta HR Conference in March 2012, featuring distinguished veterans employment experts who provided HR professionals with an exciting forum to gain information, and an opportunity to discuss veterans' employment issues.

In addition to leadership, loyalty, and a proven and tested work ethic, our veteran heroes bring a unique set of skills and experiences that can benefit your organization.  Re-employment can be exciting, but it can also be challenging for veterans and HR professionals alike.  There are so many transition resources available to help veterans that it can be difficult for HR professionals to find the right sources of information, the right Veterans for their organization, and an understanding of the right way to recruit, select, hire, on-board and train veterans. This panel presentation helped launch the VETS (Veterans Employment Team – SHRM-Atlanta) initiative, and focused on three key objectives:

  • Learning Objective 1:  Learn how to establish, organize and operate a company/organization veterans reemployment program
  • Learning Objective 2:  Understand the veteran’s career search from a veteran’s point of view and career search issues related to differently-abled veterans
  • Learning Objective 3:  Understand two programs and services veterans use during career search; the Transition Assistance Office and the Department of Veterans Affairs
